Our Herd |
||
Our beef herd is bred from cattle raised on our farm. These animals have a history here; we know their mothers back many generations. Our calves are born outdoors in the pasture and will spend several days with the mother before joining the other calves in a group with nurse cows. In three to five months the calves will be weaned off milk and begin the transition from calf to beef. In the winter this routine takes place inside the barn where the nurse cows are led to the calves at feeding time. The calves, in groups of three or four always have access to water and green legume hay. |

As the steers mature they are introduced to larger groups and will spend their summer grazing in a large pasture which is divided into smaller paddocks so that the animals always have fresh grass and the grass gets a chance to rest and regrow. Because of our birthing cycle most of our steers will be ready for market during the grazing season.
Our Animals are fed grass, hay, and grass silage. They grow naturally and slowly and are NEVER given any artificial growth stimulants. Everything we do for the cows is to make sure they have a happy, healthy, and stress free life |
